RAAF Wedgetail
In 1999, under “Project Wedgetail”, Australia ordered four AEW&C aircraft with options for three more, two of which have been taken up. The first two were delivered to the RAAF on November 26, 2009.
All RAAF Wedgetails are operated by No. 2 Squadron RAAF, based at RAAF Base Williamtown and has a permanent detachment at RAAF Base Tindal.
The first operational deployment occurred on April 1, 2014, assisting in the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and, in October 2014, the first overseas deployment supporting coalition forces conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
