HobbyBoss 1/48 EF-111 Raven Plastic Model Kit [80352]
In 1974, Grumman received a contract to develop the EF-111 family of electronic warfare models based on the existing F-111A airframe. The aircraft made its maiden flight on March 10, 1977, and began delivery to combat troops in 1981.
The EF-111A "Raven" retains the F-111A's navigation system, mainly an AN/APQ-160 radar with terrain correction function. However, the main feature of the Raven is the Raytheon AN/ALQ-99 electronic warfare system, which was developed from the ALQ-99 system used on the Navy's EA-6B Prowler, and its main electronics installation In the belly weapon bay, there is a 4.9-meter long "canoe" radome on the belly, with a launch unit installed in the middle; the total weight is 2,700 kg. The receiver is housed in the electronics bay at the top of the vertical tail, similar to the EA-6B. The aircraft's power generation and cooling systems must be extensively upgraded to support these devices. The cockpit was also reconfigured, all flight-related equipment was refitted to the pilot's body, the controls and throttle on the navigator's side were eliminated, and the instruments and controls used by electronic warfare officers were installed there.
