Built by Alstom in Spain between 1999 and 2000, thirty of these locomotives were introduced as modern replacements for the Class 47s, initially handling Royal Mail services. Following the loss of mail contracts, they have since been widely used on passenger services. Locomotive 67015, famously named ‘David J. Lloyd’, has been leased to various operators and is currently in service with Transport for Wales on premium routes. This versatile engine is capable of operating in push-pull mode with compatible coaches and a Driving Van Trailer, making it a highly flexible and iconic modern British locomotive.
