In 1946, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz founded the Blue Angels to maintain public interest in naval aviation. Their first aircraft was the combat-tested Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat. Today, 80 years later, pilots fly extremely powerful F/A-18 jets in formations with the wingtips often just a few centimeters apart. This set honors the tradition, discipline and skill that connects generations of pilots.
