Vickers Vimy “100 Years”
Alliance’s Fokker 100, VH-QQW Vickers Vimy “100 Years” livery commemorates the victory in the Great Air Race of 1919 from England to Australia. It was won by Vickers Vimy registration G-EAOU, crewed by Keith Smith, Ross, Smith, James Bennett and Walter Shiers.

In 1919 the Commonwealth Government of Australia announced a prize of £10,000 for the first Australian to fly from England to Australia in 30 days or less. Accordingly, the Smith Brothers took off on the morning of November 12, 1919, at around 8 am from Hounslow airfield, and on Wednesday, December 10, 1919, at 4.12 pm, landed at Fannie Bay in Darwin. The journey took 135 flying hours over 28 days, making the first flight from England to Australia. The Vimy is currently in storage at the Adelaide airport.
